Arab-Jewish Architectural Collaboration during the British Mandate

Architectural Partnerships between Arabs and Jewish in Haifa during the British Mandate.

The exhibition that will be displayed at the Munio Gitai Weinraub Architecture Museum as of Friday, 10.05.13, will deal with mutual influences held between Jewish architects and Arabs homeowners, While examining human relationships beyond client and architect official relationships. This meeting created an architecture that combines elements from the East and the West, the use of local materials and traditional elements combined with modern details.

The exhibition that will be presented at the Munio Gitai Weinroib Museum of Architecture starting Friday, May 10, 2013, will deal with the mutual influences that existed between the Jewish architects and the Arab homeowners, while examining the human relationships that go beyond the client-customer and architect-performer relationships.

The exhibition will review the existing architectural inventory in Haifa, while presenting the original plans of the buildings, planning proposals – perspectives, proposals for changes and correspondence from the historical archive files of the Director of Engineering. The discovery of this historical/architectural/planning information enables a rethinking of the concept of “architectural culture” as an expression of historical layers, integration of nations, cultures and religions.
